Wherever one travels on this earth life surprises. Life surprises us even when our travels are inward, rhetorical, or merely philosophical. If we venture forth, life teaches us that the world is not flat, but rather all its ends connected.

Today's Writers' Almanac

Garrison Keillor remembers today as the birthday of Robert Frost and Tennessee Williams.

Tennessee Williams said, "I have found it easier to identify with the characters who verge upon hysteria, who were frightened of life, who were desperate to reach out to another person. But these seemingly fragile people are the strong people really."
