Hunter S. Thompson
Who writes who cannot be influenced by the gonzo manner of Hunter S. Thompson?
The Washington Post, today, reports on his passing in an apparent suicide. The last paragraph of the story goes as follows:
"His beat, he once said was 'the death of the American dream.' Interviewers later suggested to him that he in a way embodied that dream. They said he exploded in profanity, but conceded that perhaps he did."
Suicide is when we forget to give up upon ourselves and give up on life, providence, and God as well. Of course it is hopeless, if we depend solely upon ourselves to make it meaningful. However, I suppose, in a Colorado Winter full of civilians from the coast who vote Republican, depression is to be expected.
